We’re excited to announce that our very own Kelly Smith, MBE – admired internationally for her contribution to women’s football and recognised as one of England’s greatest ever goal scorers has been chosen to take part in Soccer Aid 2020.
A few years ago since Kelly Smith hung up her England shirt – 2015 to be precise – but she will be sporting the national kit once again later this year all in the name of Soccer Aid.
We were thrilled that women’s football icon Kelly was invited to take over Soccer Aids Instagram for the day on the 6thMay 2020 alongside other famous faces taking part.
Due to coronavirus and thinking of everyone’s health, Soccer Aid have decided to postpone the event. Many people will be disappointed, but rest assured that Soccer Aid for Unicef remains committed to holding an event later this year to raise vital funds and help children everywhere grow up happy, healthy and able to play.
Kelly was due to be donning the England shirt for one last time at Old Trafford, in support of Soccer Aid 2020, along with Kem Cetiany, Olly Murs, Harry Maguire and some other famous faces. Kelly spent the day on soccer aid’s Instagram sharing life in lockdown with her young family.
Juggling the football along with her two children; Rocco and Lucia, Kelly Smith spent the morning show casing her football skills. She practiced her touches on the ball. Attempted Liv Cooke’s ‘around the world challenge’ which she looks forward to completing sometime in the future.
Kelly also went for a run with Lucia, sporting her new running pushchair. Proving that childcare and keeping fit can be done. Like many parents during lockdown, Kelly faced the challenge of keeping her children entertained whilst working. She showcased this by introducing her eldest child, Rocco, to football in the takeover. He enjoyed taking some shots at goal.
A key figure in women’s football Kelly joked by rounding off her day scoring against a pop up cut out of Gordon Ramsay, something we will hopefully witness later on in the year when the Soccer Aid 2020 match takes place.
